Fundraising

We encourage teams to try their hand at fundraising. It's a great way to help fund your team and get your crew to do some bonding before getting on the water.

There are many ways a team can come up with money to get them competing, remember if you've got a teams together you already have 25 avenues through which you can make some money.

Here are some ideas:

  • Quiz Nights (invite whanau, friends, work mates and ask a favourite company to supply a few spot prizes)
  • Supermarket stocktake (it happens every year, ring a few and ask if your team can help out and make some money)
  • Fairs (think of something exciting to sell at a fair, hire a stall, get everyone to help make the product and then use your sales prowess)
  • Hangi, Party or Cheap Drinks Night (everyone likes to eat and drink, as long as you promote your event well and sell tickets, you can make a bit of money)

The Wellington Dragon Boat Office has different fundraising opportunities presented to it throughout the year for teams. We will send out emails to team managers about this, so it's in your best interest to get a commitment from your team to help you make money for the season.

And don't forget about subs. Every sportsperson in the country has had to pay subs at some point. It's not too much to ask your team to put some of their own money towards their chosen sport. As a guideline $250 per team member would pay for the majority of your basic Festival Fee's (and that ends up being about $25 per week - easy!)
